Before/After Photo Checklist for Techs

Proof of workSimple checklistCallbacks

A short, repeatable list of which photos to take so you have proof of condition and work done. Disputes and callbacks drop when the same shots exist for every job.

For teams needing proof and fewer callbacks, or where techs forget what to capture.

Next: Use it on 10 jobs; then visit the FSM category if you want software to require photos before closeout.

Before/After Photo Checklist for Techs

  • - Before: overall area shot (so you can see the space and context)
  • - Before: close-up of the issue (so the problem is clear)
  • - During: key repair step (one shot that shows the fix in progress)
  • - After: finished work (same angle as before so the change is obvious)
  • - After: wide shot showing the area clean (no tools left behind, no mess)

How to customize

Replace placeholders:

  • [Name] → Customer or tech name
  • [time] → Arrival time (e.g., "2:00 PM" or "in 30 minutes")
  • [link] → Job link or tracking URL

Avoid these mistakes:

  • Don't use overly aggressive language (e.g., "URGENT: Payment due now!")
  • Don't use confusing abbreviations or jargon
  • Don't make promises you can't keep (e.g., "We'll be there in 10 minutes" if it's not realistic)

How to use it

  1. Make this part of every job closeout so techs do it by habit, not only when they remember.
  2. Store photos with the job record (phone gallery is not enough—you need them tied to the job for disputes).
  3. Use the same angles for before and after so a customer or warranty provider can see the difference at a glance.
  4. If a tech skips a shot, the job is not closed until it's added; otherwise the checklist becomes optional and callbacks stay high.

Common tweaks

  • Add a photo of serial numbers or model tags if warranty or parts tracking matters.
  • Add a customer sign-off photo for large jobs (customer in frame with completed work, or signature on device).
  • Add a safety compliance photo if your trade or contract requires it (e.g. panel closed, gas off).
  • Add "Parts installed" or "Parts left on-site" when you need to prove what was used.
  • For recurring work: add a "condition at start" shot so you can compare at the next visit.
